Summary of Publication

Australia has been supporting the Ministry of Education and Sports (the Ministry) in Laos through the Basic Education and Quality Access program (BEQUAL) since 2015 with the development and nationwide implementation of a new primary curriculum. Australia is committed to working in partnership with the Ministry by building on the success of BEQUAL Phase 1 with a second phase – BEQUAL Phase 2, from July 2022 to June 2026. Phase 2 aims to support the Ministry to respond to the learning crisis challenge especially to improve primary student learning outcomes. To achieve the program goal of “more girls and boys of primary school-age, particularly those experiencing disadvantage, improve learning outcomes”, the program will finalise the implementation of the new primary curriculum and support the achievement of improved teaching, to better facilitate primary students inclusive learning. Phase 2 is exploring potential partnership with USAID. Phase 2 will target 29 low performing educationally disadvantaged districts in Laos with a focus on equity.
