Expo Themes
The official theme for Expo 2025 Osaka is “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”.
The three sub themes are Connecting Lives Empowering Lives Saving Lives.
Australia will reflect the official Expo theme and three sub-themes in our programming where possible.
The official Expo Theme Framework includes eight theme weeks and three cross-cutting initiatives. The framework provides an important scaffold for all participating nations in their programming and reflects Expo's focus on important global issues such as decarbonisation, energy transition, and sustainability.
We will align our events calendar with the official Expo Theme Framework where appropriate.
Australia's Themes and Programming
Australia's overarching theme is Chasing the Sun. It encapsulates Australia's resilience, warmth and collaborative nature in embracing ingenuity, optimism, and opportunity for a better future.
Events and content related to Australia's four cross-cutting themes listed below will be embedded across the full six months of our programming.

- Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
These cross-cutting themes may also be incorporated into our program pillars to align to the Expo theme weeks or other programming at Expo.
Australia's ten programming pillars reflect our sectoral priorities, with each pillar representing a sub-program of event activity taking place over a period of up to a fortnight. We will align the pillars with the Expo Theme Weeks where possible. Each program pillar will be launched by a Commonwealth-led flagship event targeting VVIP corporate and government officials, followed by other events related to the pillar, including business development events, trade and investment promotions and business matching opportunities.

- International Education and Research Collaboration

The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) underpin all the official Expo themes and the Expo Association are promoting Expo as a platform for nations to confirm progress towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable development.
We intend to align our events program with the SDGs.
