Project description: Immersion/Pencelupan is a bilingual celebration of Rifaiyah textile art, a rare Sufi-inspired artform practiced by women in Batang, Indonesia. To be presented at the Darwin Festival 2026 and set in the Darwin Botanic Gardens, the production interprets the act of immersion, through dance, music, film, costume design, community workshops and a botanical tour.

Indonesian Language Revitalisation and Youth Engagement in Promoting Bilateral Relations

Project description: This project will support the revitalisation of Indonesian language learning in Australia and will promote bilateral relations through youth engagement and diplomacy in Australia and Indonesia. Activities will include a joint congress in Indonesia, delivery of the National Australia-Indonesia Language Awards, community outreach initiatives and sports diplomacy through Aussie Rules football and events delivered across AIYA chapters in both countries.

Project description: Indonesian Australian artists Michael Toisuta and Jumaadi will develop an immersive multi-artform work, exploring migration and cultural exchange. This funding will support collaborations and creative workshops with Indonesian artists in East Java to develop the work ahead of its premiere at Powerhouse Parramatta, followed by touring in the Indo-Pacific region.

Choreographers Yuiko Masukawa and Mekratingrum Hapsari will collaborate to develop new work premiering in Melbourne and touring Indonesia in 2026.
