Journalism in the Middle East 2015

AMEJE's pilot project saw two journalism students from University of Canberra travel to the UAE and Qatar for three weeks. Australia-Middle East Journalism Exchange to achieve its long-term mission of improving cross-cultural understanding by fostering better informed journalism.

Under the AMEJE, Canberra University media students Scherry Bloul and Zac Schroedl were selected and arrived in the region on the 30 May 2015. The students interviewed the Australian Ambassador to the UAE and Qatar, Mr Pablo Kang. In the first week of June they visited Dubai Media Inc, Sky News Arabia, Abu Dhabi and the Al Bayan/Emarat Al Youm newsroom. The students also had the opportunity to tour Sharjah Museum of Islamic civilization and Al Ain National Museum.

On the 15 June 2015 the media students did full day training at the Doha Centre for Media Freedom. The students visited Al Jazeera news, Qatar Foundation Radio and finished the project on the 30 July 2015 with a showcase event for stakeholders and media in Canberra.
