Project Description

Synergy & TaikOz Ltd is devoted to the creation and performance of percussion-based performance. Synergy & TaikOz's "Earth Cry", a world-first collaboration between the premier percussion groups of Australia and Korea, brings together the traditional and contemporary music of both cultures to create a dark, vibrant and transformative concert experience.

Synergy Percussion has been invited by Noreum Machi and the Seoul National Theatre to present "Earth Cry" in Seoul this October. "Earth Cry" presents both Synergy Percussion and Noreum Machi as one cohesive ensemble, drawing from both the shamanistic traditions of Korean samul-nori music and contemporary Western percussive practice, performed amidst a vivid environment of moving projections by Sydney artist Samuel James.

Since 2011 Synergy Percussion (Australia) and Noreum Machi (Korea) have engaged in an ongoing exchange of art, culture and ideas through the medium of music. After a sold-out double bill concert at Adelaide's OzAsia festival in 2014, the two ensembles premiered "Earth Cry" at the inaugural SuperSense festival in Melbourne in 2015, before touring NSW.
