2018 ACDGP grantees
Sector: Dance
Grantee: Marrugeku Inc
Project description
Centre Culturel Tjibaou presents Marrugeku's Le Dernier Appel / The Last Cry, a new multilingual, trans-Indigenous dance theatre work made in Nouméa and Sydney. Le Dernier Appel / The Last Cry explores recuperation in aftermaths of colonisation, seeking what to embrace of the new and what to let fall. Le Dernier Appel / The Last Cry asks how these concerns can disturb and regenerate dance in the Asia Pacific region, embracing reconfigurations of power and the transmission of old and new knowledges. The international creative team includes co-choreographers Dalisa Pigram (Broome/Australia) and Serge-Aimé Coulibaly (Burkina Faso/Belgium), dramaturg Rachael Swain (Sydney), PNG-Australian composer Ngaiire (Sydney), composers Nick Wales and Bree Van Reyk (Sydney), designer Nicolas Molé (Nouméa) with dancers of First Nations and immigrant descent from Australia and New Caledonia: Stanley Nalo, Krilin Nguyen, Yoan Ouchot, Dalisa Pigram, Miranda Wheen and Amrita Hepi.
