Project description
Pasifika Film Fest was first held in 2013 from a repurposed factory in Sydney’s inner west and has since grown year on year bringing Pacific stories to big screens around Australia and New Zealand. PFF are now ready to launch into the next phase of their long term vision to reach more people from Pacific communities across Oceania and beyond. In 2019 they toured to Solomon Islands, and in the year ahead plan to visit PNG, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu.
In 2018 PFF produced its first ever 48 Hour Film Challenge, providing support for ten emerging Pacific filmmakers through workshops and mentorship, free equipment and venue hire. The challenge resulted in two short films written, directed and produced entirely by Pacific filmmakers working with a Pacific only cast. In 2019 and 2020, PFF have repeated the challenge in Solomon Islands and have plans for other Pacific communities.
This project will create opportunities for Pacific filmmakers through skill transfer workshops, access to mentors, peers and industry contacts, as well as showing film content across the region and in Australia.
