Project Description

Sydney Dance Company (SDC), Australia's pre-eminent national contemporary dance company, is undertaking a four-city tour to the east-coast of the USA in February and March 2017. They will be performing in Boston, Swarthmore and Amherst and concluding with a week-long residency at the world-famous Joyce Theatre, the home of contemporary dance in New York.

Sydney Dance Company will present a triple-bill of choreographies from its current repertoire: the 2015 double Helpmann Award-winning Frame of Mind by Artistic Director, Rafael Bonachela; Raw Models by the Artistic Director of Dresden-Frankfurt Dance Company, Jacopo Godani (commissioned by SDC in 2011); and Wildebeest by Gabrielle Nankevill (commissioned by SDC in 2014 as part of its emerging choreographers season and scheduled for performance in October 2016 in SDC's main-stage Spring season in Sydney). The performance program will be accompanied by dance masterclasses, taught by SDC's Company dancers, which will be available to public and school students across the four cities.

Sydney Dance Company enjoys a reputation as one of Australis's most successful companies on the international arts circuit, undertaking an annual international tour, performing in 2016 in Switzerland, Chile and Brazil. The 2017 tour will be Sydney Dance Company's first visit to the USA since 2011.
