Summary of publication
Australia’s assistance to the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPTs) responds to the humanitarian and development needs of Palestinians. It demonstrates our commitment to support enduring peace and a two-state solution where Israelis and Palestinians can live side by side in peace and security. Our bilateral development assistance supports programs with a focus on maternal and child health, preventing violence against children, education and improved child protection services.
In June 2023, DFAT commissioned the Strategic Review Report: Occupied Palestinian Territories Humanitarian and Development Program (2019-22), an independent review of Australia’s assistance to the OPTs. It found that Australia’s humanitarian assistance and development cooperation programs were highly relevant and demonstrated effectiveness, impact, flexibility and sound risk management practices in the context of the ongoing conflict. The review recommended DFAT balance immediate humanitarian needs and long-term resilience across its programming, strengthen our focus on gender equality and maintain our high level of attention to risk management.
DFAT agrees with all recommendations in-principle. The Management Response outlines DFAT’s intended action plan to address the report’s recommendations in 2024-2025, and inform our ongoing programming during the Hamas-Israel conflict.
