UNFPA’s work under C-Surge has three objectives:
- To reduce the risk of preventable SRH-related morbidity, mortality and disability that could result from the resurgence of COVID-19, particularly for maternal and neonatal health;
- To ensure the continued availability of reproductive health and family planning commodities; and
- To strengthen Health Management Information System (HMIS) capacity to collect, analyse and make critical decisions on SRHR service provision.
UNFPA’s C-Surge program has four investments:
Asia-Pacific Regional Office (APRO): This project component focuses on capacity building for improved service delivery in up to eight priority countries, by strengthening government capacity to document, analyse and respond to disruptions in sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health service provision.
Indonesia: This project component aims to improve the country’s Health Management Information System (HMIS) for better reporting and recording of SRH indicators; strengthened maternal and perinatal death surveillance and response; and improved emergency obstetric and newborn care capacity and referral in West Java. These interventions may provide a model for replication in other provinces, to improve existing country-wide efforts to reduce maternal mortality rates.
Indonesia: The Pulih Bersama project aims to integrate SRH reproductive services for vulnerable groups in 5 districts; provide gender-based violence prevention and case management for adolescents, youth and women; and ensure access to SRH services for older women, people with disabilities and people living with HIV. These interventions will strengthen the integration of SRH and gender-based violence (GBV) services including the provision of mental health and psychosocial support to vulnerable groups.
Papua New Guinea: This project component aims to strengthen supply chain management for essential sexual and reproductive health and family planning commodities by improving the functionality of PNG’s Logistics Management Information System (eLMIS); and strengthening the capacity of logisticians and health providers in inventory management, data generation and use of the eLMIS.
