The unimaginable hardship and horror the Syrian people have endured as a result of chemical weapons is front of mind for us today. We, the States Parties of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), need to ensure such devastation does not occur again.

In accordance with item 7, regulation 6 of the Autonomous Sanctions Regulations 2011 (Cth) (the Regulations), the Minister for Foreign Affairs (the Minister) has previously designated for targeted financial sanctions, or declared for travel bans (together ‘listed’), by legislative instrument

The Australian Government will contribute an additional $8 million dollars to Australia’s response to the devastating earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria, bringing the total to $18 million.

The Australian Government will provide an initial $10 million in humanitarian assistance to those affected by the devastating earthquakes that have struck Türkiye and Syria.

The Syria conflict crisis remains one of the largest humanitarian and security crises facing the world today. In 2025, the United Nations estimates that 16.7 million people, including 7.5 million children require humanitarian assistance. Key issues include access to shelter, water, food, education, and economic opportunities.
