Description

This document details an evaluation of the effectiveness and impact of Australian and New Zealand Funding to the United Nations Development Program Pacific Centre and its technical assistance and advisory services at the country and regional levels.

The report rates the effectiveness and impact of Australian and New Zealand Funding to the United Nations Development Program Pacific Centre as satisfactory or above on eight development effectiveness criteria. The two major recommendations are that:

  • while the centre is effective as a facilitator and provider of technical services, it needs to make its role and responsibilities clearer, and undertake joint planning and fund-raising for more effective development partnerships in the region
  • while the centre's work has an impact, it could make a bigger difference through more equal joint collaboration with partners and an increased focus on building in-country knowledge and skills.

The report contains eight specific recommendations for the UNDP Pacific Centre, and eight for AusAID and New Zealand (including that the donors should continue to support the centre.
