Vietnam Aid Investment Plan Objective 2: Assisting the development and employment of a highly skilled workforce

Background

Almost two thirds of Vietnam's population is under 35 and over the
next five years it is estimated approximately seven million young
people will enter the workforce. However, the tertiary education
sector cannot meet market demand, and there is a mismatch between
the demand for and supply of particular skills. The Government of
Vietnam is committed to improve the quality of the workforce through
demand-based training and enhancing the capacity of policy makers,
entrepreneurs and skilled workers.

Objective 2 of the Australian Aid Investment Plan for Vietnam will
support these goals by engaging with the private sector to ensure
training meets industry's needs, developing human resources and
leadership in target organisations, supporting improvements to
targeted areas of Vietnam's higher education systems and institutions
and the continuation of individual scholarships for study in Australia.

Expected Results

  • Workplaces demonstrate improved human resources practices on
    an ongoing basis.
  • Targeted tertiary institutions have improved leadership and
    management, and strengthened curriculum.
  • Graduates from targeted tertiary institutions have the skills to better
serve the labour market needs of Vietnam and the region.
  • More Vietnamese receive a high quality post-graduate qualification
through Australia Awards Scholarships to study in Australia.
  • Alumni demonstrate positive contributions to Vietnam's economic
    and social development.
  • Australia and Vietnam develop stronger and sustainable
    partnerships between individuals and organisations.
