ASNO upholds its international non-proliferation through robust domestic regulation. This includes operation of a permit and notification system, and the conducting of compliance inspections and visits.
Nuclear permit requirements
ASNO has developed, in consultation with permit holders, several permit templates and compliance codes tailored to various user types.
The permits set out the fundamental conditions for nuclear material and associated items concerning:
- nuclear safeguards
- accounting for inventory
- applying appropriate security
- reporting to ASNO
- providing access for ASNO or International Atomic Energy Agency inspections.
You can download ASNO forms:
- Series 100 Forms – Applications for Approvals
- Series 200 Forms – Notifications
- Series 300 Forms – Reports
- Series 400 Forms – Permit Applications
Note: Nuclear material quantity limits and authorised uses specified in template permits are indicative only and are subject to variation based on the planned use of nuclear material. Some permits specify special conditions, usually set out in Appendix A.
Compliance codes
The compliance codes:
- are integral to and have the same regulatory status as permits
- provide the implementation details to support the conditions in permits
- are consistent with internationally accepted standards of nuclear safeguards and security.
Chemical permit requirements
There are several types of facility permits, depending on the chemical and the type of activity.
