Universal Periodic Review of Andorra

Statement by Australia

Thank you, [President/Vice President].

Australia commends Andorra on its strong commitment to the protection and promotion of human rights. Australia welcomes the creation of Andorra’s National Commission for the Prevention of Gender-based and Domestic Violence (CONPVGD) in 2015. Australia commends Andorra’s ratification of the UNESCO Convention against Discrimination in Education in March 2018.

Australia recommends that Andorra:

1. Continue its efforts to prevent sexual, gender-based and domestic violence as well as protecting and supporting victims through the CONPVGD.
2. Strengthen legislative protection for children by increasing the minimum age of marriage to 18.
3. Continue to implement policies and legislation to narrow and close the gender pay gap.
4. Sign and ratify the Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture.
