Meet our 2019 grantees
Sector: Science, Technology and Innovation
Country location: Australia
Grantee: Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO)
Project description
Since 2012, CSIRO and Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) have been establishing the good relationship to create a collaborative RD&D for mutual benefit. Both parties signed a memorandum of understanding in 2014. Hydrogen is considered to have significant potential as a future energy carrier. In January 2019 the South Korean government released a roadmap for the implementation of a hydrogen economy in South Korea. One aspect of this involves the production and building of 6.2 million hydrogen vehicles and 1200 refuelling stations by 2040. Australian governments, industry parties and research agencies are also investigating the potential for the introduction of hydrogen as a clean, low-emissions energy pathway. As in South Korea, the introduction of hydrogen refuelling stations will be critical for the early implementation of the hydrogen economy in Australia. Thus, the objective of this project is to hold a workshop to build a basic understanding of the technological, environmental and commercial aspects of hydrogen refuelling stations in Australian and South Korean contexts.
