Project description

The Australia-Korea Local Government Exchange: establishing peer-to-peer professional and cultural connections is an exciting project that aims to foster closer ties between local government in Australia and the Republic of Korea on individual, professional association, council and community levels. Local Government Professionals Australia is partnering with the Governor's Association of Korea (GAOK) to send two Australian local government professionals to Korea to spend time with a Korean counterpart in local government. The project will build on Korean participation in the Australasian Management Challenge, a professional development program for emerging local government leaders, and the Australian Local Government Congress in July-August 2019 in Darwin. Korean participants will be 'buddied' with an Australian Challenge participant to build relationships, and exchange culture and experience. The project will offer professional exchanges for two Australians to travel to Korea and spend time at their Korean counterpart's council learning about local government projects, responsibilities and systems. The pair will attend the GAOK conference in Seoul in March 2020 to present on the project and deepen their learning and connections. On return to Australia, the Australian counterparts will share their cultural experiences and learnings with local council and community.
