Project description

The Cheongju Craft Biennale is in its twentieth year and is recognised as the premier destination for the promotion and presentation of international craft. Every two years the Biennale presents the highest quality exhibitions from Korea and abroad. Over the last few years there has not been Australian representation or presentation of contemporary Australian craft.

We propose to rectify this imbalance and develop a program to strengthen ties between Australian and Korean craft practitioners. We believe the Biennale provides the perfect pathway for ongoing engagement and exchange due to the number of participating professionals and the popularity and esteem of craft in Korea.

We will take a craft curator/commissioner from Broached Commissions in Australia, plus a craftsperson of their selection. We will work with the Biennale towards identifying a Korean craftsperson to come to Australia in 2020 with the possibility of an Australian-Korean craft collaboration to emerge.
