Project description

The Art Gallery of NSW's commitment to Korean art and culture will be celebrated across its existing gallery and forthcoming new building in a showcase of art by internationally-renowned contemporary Korean artists including Lee Ufan (in collaboration with Sydney's 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art). Beginning in 2021, this will be an extraordinary celebration of cultural milestones for both the Gallery as it marks its 150th anniversary and for Australian-Korean diplomatic relations, which were formalised 60 years ago. The project draws on the Gallery's unique ties with major Korean cultural centres and museums to advance the appreciation of Korean culture and art in Australia. It will be supported by public programs, talks and lectures to increase awareness of the importance and influence of Korean artists in the international art world.
