Government response to the Joint Standing Committee on Treaties' report on the Australia-Hong Kong Free Trade Agreement and associated Investment Agreement

On 19 February 2020, the Government response to the report was published. The Government accepted the recommendation that binding treaty acting in the case of the A-HKFTA and Investment Agreement.

Joint Standing Committee on Treaties' report on the Australia-Hong Kong Free Trade Agreement and associated Investment Agreement

On 9 October 2019 the Joint Standing Committee on Treaties' report on the Australia-Hong Kong Free Trade Agreement (A-HKFTA) and the associated Investment Agreement, as well as the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, was tabled in Parliament. The Committee recommended binding treaty acting in the case of the A-HKFTA and Investment Agreement.

Statement to the Joint Standing Committee on Treaties' Inquiry into the A-HKFTA and the associated Investment Agreement

On 9 September 2019, Ms Elizabeth Ward, Chief Negotiator, Regional Trade Agreements Division, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and representatives of other Australian Government agencies appeared before the Joint Standing Committee on Treaties.

Signing of A-HKFTA and the Investment Agreement

Then Australian Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham, signed the Australia-Hong Kong Free Trade Agreement and the associated Investment Agreement with then Hong Kong Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Edward Yau in Sydney on 26 March 2019.
