52nd Session of the Human Rights Council
Australia thanks the Special Rapporteur for her report.
We welcome efforts to identify good practices in providing reparations for child victims and survivors, and look forward to sharing Australia’s experience during the Special Rapporteur’s upcoming visit to Australia.
Australia is committed to keeping children safe from sexual abuse and exploitation. The Government’s National Strategy to Prevent and Respond to Child Sexual Abuse includes measures improving access to civil remedies, including reparation, for victims and survivors of these crimes.
As part of our National Action Plan to Combat Modern Slavery (2020-25), we are developing a strategy to empower victims and survivors – including children – as we work together to prevent modern slavery in Australia.
Australia supports the UN Office of Victims’ Rights Advocate to ensure an integrated child-sensitive approach to supporting victims of sexual exploitation and abuse.
Australia also supports the development of resources under the ASEAN-Australia Counter-Trafficking program, including studies on child protection in the justice system.
We ask the Special Rapporteur: how we can most effectively amplify the voices of victims and survivors when designing and implementing reparation frameworks?
