Australia and Indonesia are close neighbours, strategic partners, and friends.

We have a long history of working together on shared development priorities – promoting prosperity, stability and resilience while strengthening ties between our two nations. In line with Indonesia's National Long-Term Development Plan 2025-2045 and commitments to the Sustainable Development Goals, our partnership supports sustainable and equitable economic growth, energy transition, climate change resilience and institutional strengthening.

Strategic direction

Our development partnership is evolving to keep pace with Indonesia's rapid development and policy ambition. We are responsive, flexible, and able to seize opportunities for collaboration in areas of mutual interest.

We are tackling shared challenges by:

  • strengthening strategic economic cooperation;
  • deploying high-quality climate finance;
  • building stronger and deeper institutional linkages; and
  • driving equitable development by advancing gender equality, disability and social inclusion.
