Australia works with the ;United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) – a global fund that enables humanitarian partners to provide life-saving support to people in need through rapid response when a new crisis emerges, and critical support to underfunded crises.
In 2023-24, Australia provided $11 million in global funding to CERF. In 2023, Australia was CERF's 15th largest donor.
In 2023, CERF assisted 33 million people in 40 countries and territories, providing:
- critical health care to 17.4 million people
- food assistance and agricultural inputs to 7.6 million people
- access to water and sanitation services for 9.9 million people
- education for 178,000 people
- protection services to 6.5 million people
- shelter for 2.7 million people.
