The protection and promotion of international human rights law is a priority for Australia. We seek an inclusive multilateral human rights system, that welcomes the perspectives of Indigenous peoples, human rights defenders, and civil society.

A year on since the Taliban took control of Kabul, Australia remains gravely concerned at the increasing abuse of women and girls’ human rights.

Australia is extremely concerned about the report’s findings of widespread and systematic human rights abuses of women and girls, ethnic and religious minorities, and political opponents over the past year.

While recognising current economic challenges, Australia encourages the Government of Sri Lanka to renew its efforts towards truth, justice and accountability and work with all stakeholders to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to deliver peacebuilding and transitional justice measures.

Australia continues to be deeply concerned by the situation in Myanmar and condemns ongoing human rights abuses and violations of international law by the military regime.
